Seollal Celebrations at KSIC USA
This week, our students welcomed the Korean Lunar New Year through a series of cultural activities, including making hanji lucky pouches (한지 복주머니), experiencing hanbok (한복), and participating in Yutnori (윷놀이).
- Hanji lucky pouches (한지 복주머니) are inspired by traditional Korean fortune pouches symbolizing good luck and prosperity. Crafted from hanji — Korea’s traditional mulberry paper known for its strength and delicate texture — these pouches reflect both cultural symbolism and the artistry of Korean paper traditions.
- Hanbok (한복) is Korea’s traditional attire, recognized for its elegant silhouettes, vibrant colors, and thoughtful design. Trying on hanbok offers a direct connection to Korean history, aesthetics, and cultural identity.
- Yutnori (윷놀이) is a traditional Korean board game commonly associated with Seollal. Played with wooden sticks, the game combines chance, strategy, and social interaction, making it a meaningful group activity during the holiday season.
Seollal is a time for reflection, tradition, and sharing wishes for the year ahead. It was meaningful to see our students engage with these customs and deepen their connection to Korean culture.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. 새해 복 많이 받으세요!
